New South Wales Women in Agriculture Inc was established in 1995 to allow women with a common interest in managing and working in businesses involved in agriculture to come together. Members aim to enhance their skills and address the growing number of state issues which critically impact on agricultural industry and rural communities. To accomplish this goal, we aim to provide women with opportunities to enhance skills and leadership qualities so they may become more effective spokespersons for their businesses, industries, communities and their families. NSW Women in Agriculture, while comparatively young, has earned respect for its commitment to agriculture, its professionalism, and its willingness to explore new ways of getting the rural message to state and local governments and our urban neighbours. We draw our membership from all commodity groups, aspects of agribusiness and all regions of the state. NSW Women in Agriculture caters to women who play an active role in their businesses and enterprise or commodity groups. We provide a framework for a network of professional women in the business of agriculture. We seek ways to promote Australian agriculture and educate others about its importance. Our main goal is to highlight and extend the integral role that women play in the business of agriculture. |

Organisation of NSW Women in Agriculture |
|
NSW Women in Agriculture Inc is overseen by a State Committee consisting of a President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, immediate Past President, Editor and additional committee members. Each executive and committee member is elected for a one year term directly (except for immediate Past President) from the membership at the Annual General Meeting. Special committees are selected on an ad hoc basis to assist in organising programs, specific events or to conduct issue research. This simple but effective organisational structure allows us to operate cost effectively. More importantly, our framework allows us to provide immediate and timely input on issues when needed. NSW Women in Agriculture Inc is financially supported by member subscriptions and additional contributions from corporate sponsors and allied agri-business. |
|
To facilitate communication with our members and sponsors we issue regular 'Update' newsletters and publish a quarterly magazine. Entitled 'From Back and Beyond', the magazine carries articles on NSW Women in Agriculture Inc.'s activities and events and facts and resource information on current issues and events. The magazine also provides a forum for discussion, an opportunity for sponsor advertising and serves to maintain our member network. It complements both the newsletters and the website. |

Program and Major Activities
Our ongoing annual program features three major events:
Annual Conference and Symposium
Annual General Meeting
'Paddock to Parliament'.
The annual conference is held during March or April and the AGM is held in July or August. The State Committee meet for a Planning Session early each year and throughout the year by tele-conference.
Other activities - seminars, workshops, guest speakers - are organised throughout the year at both state and branch level.
The three key events are designed to provide the tools and opportunities necessary to achieve our organisational goals and to provide credible and professional information to our partners and stakeholders, including government decision makers, regarding rural and agricultural issues. |
